MUSSELS
· Scientific Name: Bivalvia
· Forty-three percent of the three hundred species of freshwater mussels are in danger of extinction
· The Fat Pocketbook (Potamilus capax) is found only in the lower Wabash and Ohio rivers, and in the lower Cumberland river
· Impoundments and dredging for navigation, irrigation and flood control have altered or destroyed much of this mussels habitat
· The population of the Fat Pocketbook: thirty to fifty percent

Abiotic Factors: Temperature
-Freshwater temperatures may differ between uniform or disparate among ponds and lakes depending on seasons
-Freshwater biomes include a thermocline, which is a zone between both top and bottom layers that temperature changes continuously
-During spring and fall seasons, layers mix with each other which cause a stable temperature around 4 degrees Celsius
-Oxygen circulates throughout the lake
-Water characteristics may be distinguished due to depth, static (doesn't move) Ex: ponds and lakes

Human Inpact on the Biome
The human impact of the freshwater biome is that we are making animals instinct and that we are killing the trees, dirtying the wqaters, and killing animals.
